Also known as Wellington Village, the Island Park neighbourhood has great views of the Ottawa River, tons of natural charm, and a good mix of real estate options.

Here is what you need to know about living in Island Park:

Location

On the shore of the Ottawa River, just west of Downtown Ottawa.

Restaurants & Cafés

Start your day with Ottawa Bagelshop and Deli’s hand-rolled, honey-water boiled, wood-fired bagels on Wellington Street West. If you are looking for a weekend brunch spot, Wellington Diner has you covered with all-day breakfast and comfort food. For dinner, balance out your diet at The Table, a health-conscious, pay-by-weight buffet featuring vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. Finally, finish off the night at Foolish Chicken which, of course, serves chicken – but more importantly, mouth-watering cheesecake.

Entertainment & Fun

Island Park’s practically perfect location has it sitting right on the banks of the Ottawa River, which means there are biking and walking paths galore. Walk, bike, or drive down Island Park Drive to Bate Island in the summer (there are a lot of picnic tables and BBQ spots), or spend some time at one of the numerous galleries, such as Cube.

Community Events

There is plenty to mark down on your calendars in Island Park! From the Fall Flair Craft Fair at Parkdale United Church and annual Tastes of Wellington West street party to The Happening, a 3-day street festival from Somerset Bridge to Island Park that celebrates local artists, musicians, and designers.

Transit Options

Currently, under construction, Tunney’s Pasture Station will provide access to buses and light rail lines, with a projected completion date of Winter 2017/2018. In the meantime, you can still find bus routes and bike trails throughout the neighbourhood, plus easy access to the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway, Trans-Canada Highway, and Champlain Bridge to Quebec.

Real Estate Stats

Many of the homes in the area were built between 1900 and 1960; you will see a lot of beautiful homes with mature trees here. Detached houses range in price from $325K – $1.3Mil+ while attached homes vary from $350K – $1Mil. There are also newer houses in the area built after 1990.
