Just a short commute to downtown Ottawa, Orleans is located on Ottawa’s eastern edge. With a large francophone population, this community is approximately one-third French speaking. Orleans real estate is made up of many beautiful smaller neighbourhoods which can be divided into geographical regions. Orleans North communities include Convent Glen North, Chatelaine Village, Hiawatha Park and Orleans Woods. Chapel Hill, Queenswood Heights, Convent Glen South, Chateauneuf, Sunridge, and Mer Bleue are South Orleans neighbourhoods. Orleans East communities include Fallingbrook, Ridgemont, Pineridge Gardenway, Avalon, Nottingate, and Springridge. On the western edge of Orleans is the larger neighbourhood known as Blackburn Hamlet.

Orleans real estate mainly consists of detached single-family houses with approximately 20% semi-attached homes in both newer and mature subdivisions. North Orleans neighbourhoods were developed between 1965 and 1985 and house prices range from $300K-$1.4Mill+ for detached and $250K-$335K for attached homes. Commencing in 1960 with development still continuing today, homes in South Orleans range in price from $250K-$700K for detached and $275K-$400K for attached houses. Houses in Orleans East, which began development in 1984 and continues today, vary in price from $300K-$775K for detached and $250K-$425K for attached homes. Most of the houses in Blackburn Hamlet were built in between 1960 and 1980, they range in price from $300K-$500K for detached and from $265K-$450K for attached homes.

Recreation

Orleans has no shortage of recreational activities for its residents. There are plenty of scenic trails for cyclists and hikers and many parks in the area contain sports fields, basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts, playgrounds and splash pads, ice skating rinks and hills for tobogganing in the Winter.

Several recreational complexes are located in Orleans and offer indoor ice skating and hockey arenas, swimming and wading pools, courts for racquetball and squash, fitness centres, and programs and courses for all ages.

Petrie Island is located near to Orleans and this nature reserve allows visitors the opportunity to learn about local habitat and wildlife as well as enjoy nature trails, beaches, and lagoons. Visitors can also rent kayaks and canoes and drink and dine at the full concession stand.

For indoor recreation, Orleans offers movie theatres, bowling alleys, the Gymboree Play and Music indoor playground for younger children and Kids Kingdom indoor play space for older children. Blackburn Hamlet features many of the same recreational opportunities as Orleans and their active community association hosts two community gardens, an annual Funfair in June, a 5Km Cancer Run/Walk, and social groups for all ages from Girl Scouts to the Fifty Plus Club, art groups, horticultural society, and others.

Shopping and Dining

Everything Orleans’s residents need for their shopping and dining can be found right in the neighbourhood from big-box stores such as Best Buy, Walmart, the Home Depot, Canadian Tire, Toys R Us, and others, to grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, and health and dental services.

In addition, Place D’Orleans with over 180 brand name stores, department stores, specialty shops, fashion wear, sporting goods, travel services, electronics, etc. is central to the area and offers residents all their personal shopping requirements in one convenient location. With a wide variety of coffee shops, pubs, and restaurants from family-friendly to upscale, fast food, and takeout in a range of ethnic cuisines, Orleans residents will have many options for their dining and socializing pleasures.
