Located in the Ottawa Greenbelt, Elmvale Acres/Hawthorne Park is a well-established neighbourhood built on top of farmland. Homes in this area were built between 1950-1970 and are mostly detached with spacious yards filled with mature trees. Prices are quite affordable ranging from $275K-$600K. One of Ottawa’s two VIA Rail train stations is also located in this area.

Recreation

There are plenty of recreational opportunities available for residents of Elmvale Acres/Hawthorne Park, including three community centres as well as a community garden. Basketball and tennis courts, baseball diamonds, skating rinks, outdoor wading pools, and numerous parks with play structures for children make this an ideal location for those who enjoy outdoor activities and sports. In addition, the Canadian Science and Technology Museum is located in this area offering residents of all ages to explore science-based activities.

This area features several areas for shopping and dining including the corner of Arch Street and Canterbury Avenue and Kilborn Avenue in between Alta Vista Drive and Haig Drive. In addition, the Elmvale Shopping Centre is located on the corner of St. Laurent Boulevard and Smyth Road, and offers a wide variety of shopping and services including a grocery store, pharmacy, bank, LCBO, and more. There are also many restaurants in the area for dining in as well as take-out.

Schools and Churches

Elmvale Acres/Hawthorne Park features numerous excellent schools including Arch Street Public School, Hawthorne Public School, Hillcrest High School, Riverview Alternative School, Vincent Massey Public School, and Canterbury High School, which offers a specialized program for the arts. The St. Aiden’s Anglican Church Elmvale Acres is a local church in the area.
