| Buying

Ottawa, the capital of Canada, is a diverse and beautiful city that attracts newcomers from all over the world. It has been ranked as having a very high quality of life. Few markets in Canada can offer you the diversity of neighborhoods that you’ll find when moving to Ottawa. When buying a home or relocating to a new city, location is one of the most important factors to consider.

Here’re Some of the Best Areas when Moving to Ottawa:

Kanata

Kanata has recently become a hub for technology innovation in Ottawa with a large concentration of high-tech companies. It has even been dubbed Silicon Valley North. Because of this, Kanata attracts many highly educated people who see it as a great place to raise a family. Not all young professionals want to live downtown, and Kanata offers a great alternative with its vast green spaces and ample indoor and outdoor recreation.

Public transportation runs all throughout Kanata and there’s even three Park and Ride stations allowing you to ditch the car and get around conveniently. For those who like to shop and eat, The Centrum Shopping Centre is a very popular outdoor shopping area with tons of stores, restaurants and free parking. For the avid golfer, Kanata has the renowned links-style 27 hole course at The Marches.

Stittsville

In this picturesque, family-oriented suburb of Ottawa, Stittsville sits just west of Kanata and has a rich history. With its small town feel, Stittsville is very family friendly with easy access to schools, doctors, malls and every amenity or service you may need. This suburb gives its residents a taste of country life within close proximity to the city.

There’s an abundance of recreation opportunities such as bike paths, cross country skiing and other adventurous activities all year round. The Goulbourn Recreation Complex offers pools, rinks and a ton of fitness classes for the whole family. It is simple to navigate around Stittsville with many bus stops throughout the neighborhood. With the expanding number of grocery stores, family-owned businesses and accessible amenities, Sittsville certainly has everything you’ll need with the peace and quiet of being outside of the city.

Sandyhill

Sandyhill is one of Ottawa’s most historic neighborhoods lined with big trees and beautiful churches. Just a five minute walk to downtown, Sandyhill is known for having the University of Ottawa within its boundaries and therefore has a very large student population. With its relaxing and fun feel, this vibrant part of Ottawa is also popular amongst young professionals and couples without children.

Sandyhill is very accessible by OC Transpo, and will soon be an ideal place for those interested in riding the Light Rail’s Confederation Line. Many Victorian houses are subdivided into apartments in Sandyhill, and with ample driveways compared to other neighborhoods close to downtown, car owners find it very convenient. In this younger area, there’s no shortage of cultural activities, ethnic restaurants and an active social scene.

Orleans

In the vibrant and youthful area of Orleans, a rich history has created a diverse mix of residents. Within this quickly growing suburb, low crime rates, low unemployment and affordable homes make for a desirable place to raise a family. Orleans boasts plenty of choices for housing from detached homes, apartments and townhomes, making it sensible for young couples or families with multiple kids.

Orleans has a village vibe and provides a ton of opportunity for adventure nearby, such as hiking up to Princess Louise Falls or taking a beach day at Petrie Island. If amenities are what you’re looking for, Riocan Orleans is located at the intersection of Innes and Tenth Line and has convenient box stores. Place d’Orléans is one of Ottawa’s largest shopping malls and has over 170 stores to meet any of your retail needs.
