Location

Sandy Hill is located in Central Ottawa. The neighbourhood is bordered by the Rideau River, the highway, and Rideau Street.

Sitting right on the Rideau River, Strathcona Park features a play structure, bicycle paths, BBQ areas, a baseball diamond, and a popular tobogganing hill in the park’s northern end. It’s also the home of Odyssey Theatre’s outdoor productions during the warmer months. At the Laurier House, once home to Sir Wilfred Laurier and now a National Historic Site and museum, you can take a trip back in time through Canadian History.

There are also plenty of things to do in Byward Market, which is right next to the Sandy Hill neighbourhood. If you are in the mood to shop, the Rideau Centre has a combination of high-end stores, amenities, services, and food options.

Community Events

Sandy Hill has a strong local community and a great community association, so you will find many events held all throughout the year. Keep an eye out for some local favourites, including the Winter Carnival and Craft Fair, Fall BBQ, and Spring Fair.

Transit Options

OC Transpo has two major stations in the area: Mackenzie King and Laurier. Currently under construction is the uOttawa Station, which will serve as the local O-Train station along the Confederation Line.

There is also easy access to the Queensway and Trans-Canada Highway at the southern end of the neighbourhood, and access to King Edward Avenue leading to the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge at the northern end.

Real Estate Stats

Most of the homes in this area were built between 1900 and 1950, so you will see a lot of charming features. Additional homes were built between 1980 and 1990. Average real estate prices here range from $475K – $1.3Mil+ for a detached house and $350K – $800K for a semi-detached house.
