Recreation
There is an abundance of recreational activities in this family-friendly neighbourhood. Residents enjoy a plethora of nature trails throughout the Greenbelt as well as scenic pathways along the beautiful Rideau River for walking, jogging, and cycling. Hog’s Back Falls is a UNESCO World Heritage site where the Rideau River and Rideau Canal separate. The stunning rapids and falls are enhanced with cycling and walking trails along them which are also used by cross-country skiers in the Winter.
That's not all though:
Nepean is sprinkled with larger and pocket parks throughout all its communities and they feature play structures, wading pools and splash pads, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, sports fields, ice skating and hockey rinks and tobogganing hills for Winter fun. Active community associations in each area promote annual social events to bring neighbours together such as Family Fun Days, Community Garage Sales, BBQs, Movies in the Park, Christmas Craft Sales, and many others.
There are many community recreational centres across Nepean offering programs, courses, and sports activities for all ages. Nepean Sportsplex is the largest of them and features an Olympic-sized pool with diving boards, a family pool, and children’s wading pool; three full-size rinks for hockey and ice skating, 10 sheet curling centre, squash courts, gymnastics studio, fitness centre and weight room, numerous sports fields, lawn bowling turf, and 18 banquet and meeting rooms where it hosts conventions, special events, and tradeshows. Centrepointe Theatre in Nepean is a performing arts theatre which offers a variety of art and cultural events from music to comedy to kid’s shows, and more.
Nepean is also home to several golf courses, the Rideau Canoe Club, Nepean Sailing Club, and a variety of private and public clubs for sports, arts, dance, etc.
