Centrally located, Alta Vista is primarily a residential neighbourhood with plenty of green spaces and parks. It is also where the Ottawa General Hospital, Riverside Hospital, and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario are located. Most of the homes were built between 1950-1970 and most of them are detached ranging in price from $300K-$1.5Mill.

Recreation

Three large connected parks stretch across this community giving residents plenty of opportunities for recreational activities. In addition, there are basketball courts, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, outdoor skating rinks, volleyball courts, wading pools, play structures, and splash pads for children. There are also 3 community centres located in the area with many options for group and individual activities.

Shopping and Dining

The Billings Bridge Plaza and Elmvale Shopping Centre are two shopping malls located in the area, so residents have easy access for their home and personal care needs. In addition, restaurants are plentiful in a variety of options from ethnic to family-friendly and fast food.

Schools and Churches

With a large residential population, there are many great schools located in Alta Vista. These include Alta Vista Public School, Ecole Elementaire Catholique Lamoureux, Ecole Secondaire Catholique Franco-Cite, Charles H. Hulse Public School, Featherstone Drive Public School, Hillcrest High School, Lycee Claudel, Ottawa Montessori School, St Thomas the Apostle Nursery School, and St. Patrick's Intermediate School. In addition, many churches are also located in Alta Vista: Archdiocese d'Ottawa, Congregation Machzikei Hadas, Ottawa Vietnamese Alliance Church, Paroisse Saint Thomas d'Aquin, Pleasant Park Baptist Church, Rideau Park United Church, and St. Timothy's Presbyterian.
